Daffy DoodleThe Daffy Charitable Fund

Since 2020, I have taken great pleasure in using what is essentially a tax dodge: a Donor Advised Fund, or DAF, to make donations to organizations that are doing the hard work of making the world a better place.

"A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a simple, tax-smart investment solution for charitable giving. You can set up an account and contribute cash, securities, or appreciated assets. You’ll be eligible for a current-year tax deduction and can be more strategic about your giving decisions."

When I set up my DAF, I had illusions of anonymity, and did not want to put my name on it. When making a grant, one can choose to be anonymous, but that doesn't work if your name is on the fund.

Since it is a DAF fund, and my wonderful dog was Daffy Doodle, and I am essentially a silly person, I named it for her. This was not a wise choice, but I don't regret it. Occasionally some of my recipients don't believe it's for real, and I don't blame them. But the money is real and they usually get on board.

Here are the organizations I have granted to in 2025. The link will open a new window with the organization's home page. Some personal comments, in italics, follow a short description.
